chicago dot a la carte services
I loved my time working with CDOT, but it was not easy. Complicated signals, immense workloads, tight timelines, and an often confusing process made it hard both for staff and consultants to get things done. As a public servant (both with CDOT and in my current role), I value consultants that know exactly what’s needed to smooth out the process and do things right. And now I can help you streamline your traffic work with the City of Chicago.
We provide turn-key services to ensure your designs and timings are exactly the way CDOT likes them (like a “Swiss Clock”), simplifying things for them and you, and making you look good in the process.
CDOT A la Carte Menu
CDOT Signal Design (TSR) High-Level Review - $200 per
We’ll review your Signal Design to ensure they meet CDOT guidelines, which I helped establish in my time there. We’ll provide comments & markups to minimize unnecessary back and forth correspondence with the City’s Traffic Staff.
CDOT Signal Timing (TS) Creation - $500 (or $800) per
We’ll create and sign off on signal timing plans (in interval or NEMA format) that follow CDOT guidelines. In addition, we’ll work with CDOT staff to obtain crash history and 311 call data to ensure these timings are mitigating any safety or resident concerns. These are a base fee, even there are substantial comments with CDOT Staff. You provide:
TSR Draft (Final needed for signature)
Traffic Signal Conduit (TCS) Plan from CDOT Electrical
Traffic Volumes
We provide:
Signal Timing Plan (TS) in cad and pdf format
Associated Synchro files
Pedestrian/All-red + Yellow Clearance Calculation Sheet
Direct Correspondence with CDOT Traffic Staff until Approval
Additionally, add a $300 surcharge to signals that have unique or multi-legged characteristics. This is to ensure overlaps, dummy phases, and other items are properly modeled and addressed, and in these situations we will work directly with CDOT DEO (Dept of Electrical Operations) staff to ensure the phasing and timing configurations will work properly.
We also can help you with corridor signal timing, phasing configurations, Interval to NEMA conversions, and bike/ped focused signals consultation. These don’t fall under the A la Carte umbrella, but we’d love to chat with you if you were looking for any help with those.
